The Fraga City Council and the Spanish Association Against Cancer have presented this event, which will be held next Sunday, February 25th, and for which registration can be done from this Monday.
The capital of the Bajo Cinca region will celebrate its 11th annual Race for Life next Sunday, February 25th, under the slogan 'Fraga on the move against cancer'. Registration for this charity event, which annually attracts around 3.000 participants, costs eight euros, and all proceeds will go towards cancer research projects.
Mayor Ignacio Gramún remarked that “this is one of the most well-attended events of the year.” “It’s wonderful and moving to see how our entire city comes together for such a vital cause as the fight against cancer and for an initiative like the Race for Life,” the mayor said at the press conference held this Monday to present the event, alongside Fina Escándil, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in the Bajo Cinca region, and its vice president, Mari Carmen Márquez.
Regarding the latest data provided by the Spanish Association Against Cancer on World Cancer Day (February 4), which states that one in two men and one in three women will develop this disease during their lifetime, the mayor commented that "these figures highlight the need for everyone to move in the same direction in the fight against cancer because it is a fight that affects the whole of society."
Fina Escándil emphasized that “it’s a race done with heart and with volunteers. We’re driven by our hearts, and our aim is for it to be an entertaining and fun morning for the whole family.”
Registration from Monday to Saturday
Registration costs €8 and can be done in person at the Spanish Association Against Cancer's office located on Paseo Barrón, starting this Monday. It will be open Monday to Friday from 16:00 PM to 20:00 PM, and on Tuesdays and Saturdays it will also be open in the morning, from 10:00 AM to 13:00 PM. Online registration is also available at www.rockthesport.com.
With each subscription, the organization will provide a commemorative green t-shirt with the aim of turning the city streets green on Sunday morning.
Circuit starting at Cegonyer
The 11th Race for Life will follow the same route as in previous editions, starting on Paseo Barrón-Cegonyer, where visits to the Ice Well are scheduled at 10:00 and 10:30, and finishing on Avenida de la Constitución, in front of the indoor swimming pools.
“The race will start at 11:00 a.m. sharp. Punctuality is primarily for safety reasons: streets need to be closed, many people are working to ensure maximum security, and as the race progresses, Fraga will return to normal,” assured the association's president, who explained that during the race there will be activities for children, a batucada band and a brass band, Zumba classes, and more.
'Who are you supporting?'
“This year, as a new feature, we've added the title 'Who are you participating for?' because the important thing is to participate. We've made stickers that people who sign up will receive, and the idea is that they take them home, write whatever message they want, and then put it on their shirt on race day,” commented Escándil, who explained that at the finish line these stickers will be attached to a banner and “collected to find out who they've participated for.”
