Torrente de Cinca celebrates its big day by reviving the tradition of wearing traditional dress

More than 60 residents have responded to the initiative of the Associació Lo Pedrís and have participated in the procession and main mass of San Salvador wearing typical clothing

More than 60 residents of Torrent de Cinca donned the town's traditional dress on Thursday, August 6th, during the main events of San Salvador. The initiative, promoted by the Torrent Lo Pedrís Youth Cultural Association , accompanied the procession and the departure of the Pan Beneït (blessed bread) at the official start of the summer festivities, with the aim of reviving a custom that for years was an integral part of this important day for the municipality in the Bajo/Baix Cinca region.

The proposal had been publicized in the preceding weeks with an open invitation to the entire population, regardless of whether participants owned an old costume or were wearing one for the first time . The residents of Lo Pedrís summarized the purpose of the event with the message of becoming a town "of tradition, color, and camaraderie" once again, and they hoped the celebration would serve as a starting point for re-establishing this custom.

The response has exceeded initial expectations. More than 60 residents of Torrente de Cinca, mostly women, joined the procession dressed in various garments representative of traditional clothing . Shawls, vests, sashes, scarves, and other traditional pieces once again filled the streets during a morning marked by anticipation and the satisfaction of many residents who were reunited with an image linked to the festive history of Torrente de Cinca.

The religious events of the main day began at 9:00 a.m. with a musical procession by the Armonía Music Band. At 10:30 a.m., the Pan Beneït (blessed bread) left the church, and 15 minutes later, the procession and main mass in honor of San Salvador were celebrated.

Festive program until August 9th

The day unfolded under the high temperatures typical of these weeks in the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, although some periods of less intense sunlight made the journey more bearable. Along with the mayor of Torrente de Cinca, Rubén Morell , and members of the municipal council, representatives from the Huesca Provincial Council, the Fraga City Council, the Bajo/Baix Cinca Regional Council, and the Civil Guard were also present.

The revival of traditional dress has thus become one of the main elements of the start of festivities that will last until Sunday, August 9, and which, unofficially, had already experienced their first events last weekend with the proclamation of the Torrentins and Torrentines and the opening speech, within a festive prelude that began at the end of July.
