From March 1st to 8th, the program of cultural, educational and social activities will focus on making women visible, reflecting on equality and the active participation of citizens.
The "La Dona" Association of Mequinenza has organized a new edition of its Cultural Week, which will take place from March 1st to 8th, with a program of activities open to the public and centered around the commemoration of International Women's Day. During this period, cultural, educational, and community-building activities will be offered to highlight the role of women, encourage reflection on equality, and promote active citizen participation.
The first of the planned activities will take place on Sunday, March 1st, with a cultural trip to Barcelona, combining heritage with a visit to Casa Batlló and attendance at the "Living the 90s" show at L'Example Teatre. On Monday, at 10:00 a.m., the traditional handmade soap will be made in the courtyard of the Asociación de la Dona – Grup d'Art premises, an activity that promotes tradition, collective work, and the charitable side of the organization.
The program continues on Tuesday, March 3rd, with a talk aimed at promoting health and well-being. Physiotherapist Borja Marfil will discuss neck pain, its causes, and its short- and long-term consequences. Film takes center stage on Wednesday with a screening in the Sala Goya of "Siempre nos quedará mañana" (We'll Always Have Tomorrow), directed by Paola Cortellesi, a reflection on the role of women and the difficulties they face in their family and social environments. Then, on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., another traditional activity of Cultural Week will take place: the painting of the commemorative mural for the 2026 edition on the wall opposite Spai Jove, accompanied by hot chocolate for all attendees.
The Sala Goya will host the weekend's activities. On Friday at 5:30 p.m., it will screen the short films “Calamity Jane 1882” (2020), “Madame Fransuà” (2023), and “The Bounty Hunter” (2025), the “Western Trilogy” by Mequinenza-born filmmaker Enrique Novials, followed by a discussion. Then, at 7:00 p.m., the Mequinenza Municipal Orchestra will provide the musical accompaniment to the scheduled activities with a concert. On Saturday at 6:00 p.m., the El Gato Negro theater company will present “¡Ay, Carmela!” by José Sanchís Sinisterra, starring Laura Plano and Luis Rabaneque. Set during the Spanish Civil War, the play offers a critical perspective on memory, dignity, and commitment.
The program of events for the Cultural Week organized by the "La Dona" Association of Mequinenza will conclude on Sunday, March 8th, International Women's Day, at noon, with a gathering and the reading of a manifesto in the Town Hall Square. This event, open to the entire community, will bring to a close a program designed as a space for encounter, advocacy, reflection, participation, and commitment to equality in commemoration of March 8th.
