This year, La Faldeta Day brings some new features. The Fraga City Council has sought to create a more convenient program for residents and visitors by spreading the activities over several days.
At the presentation held this week , the city council of the capital of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region outlined some of the new features of this year's festival. Television personality Lorenzo Caprile is one of the most anticipated names on this year's program. The reopening of the Plaza de España, following its renovation, is another highlight. But undoubtedly, the most significant structural change is the spread of activities over several days.
The 'Ronda a Casa dels Novios' (Serenade to the Bride and Groom's House) will still take place on the Friday before the wedding (April 19th), but as indicated by Mapi Aquilue, the councilor for festivals, the route has been modified and stages have been set up at the locations representing the bride and groom's homes, so that the public can have a better view of the performances. As always, the jotas (traditional Aragonese folk songs) of the Rondalla de Peña Fragatina will accompany this activity. The Fraga Town Hall encourages everyone to wear traditional dress for 'La nit del percal' (The Night of the Percal).
But without a doubt, the 'Estampes Típiques' (Traditional Scenes), reenactments of traditional trades and crafts, are the most novel activity. Usually, these scenes took place on Sunday, alongside the parade and the traditional wedding in Fraga. This year, they will be held on Saturday, so everyone can enjoy them at their leisure. " Until now, during La Faldeta Day, many things were crammed into a very short time. We wanted to separate the scenes into different days so people can see them calmly and enjoy these reenactments, " said Verónica Alins, the tourism councilor. Furthermore, the City Council hopes this will make the tourist offerings more attractive to visitors who decide to spend the whole weekend in Fraga, instead of just one day.
The props and decorations for the scenes will remain in place on Sunday, so that everyone, whether dressed in costume or not, can take photographs at these locations and take away a souvenir of this day.
More prominence has also been given to the 'Sainete' (a short, farcical play). This theatrical performance, sometimes overlooked amidst the day's flurry of activities, will therefore take place this year on Sunday, April 14th, at 'Lo Castell' in Fraga. The costume workshop and the exhibition at the Montcada Palace are among the other activities planned for this edition, completing a program brimming with both new additions and classic events.
The mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramun, recalled the importance of this festival, with the tribute to 'Les Dones de Faldetes' and the remembrance of the origins of the celebration that " this year will be special because we will inaugurate the Faldeta in the Segoñé, for the first time after its renovation and it is also the first time for this government team ."
