Lila Downs and Chucho Valdés will also be recipients of the X Pirineos Sur Awards
International artist Ricky Martin, winner of multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, among other accolades, will be recognized by the Provincial Council of Huesca after four decades of a successful and admired artistic career. His immeasurable talent in different areas of entertainment, but above all his valuable contribution to Latin music in Spain and on the world stage, make Ricky one of the most important and respected artists in the music industry: for this reason, he will be awarded the Pirineos Sur Prize in the 'Cultural Diversity' category.
Next Tuesday, July 23, the festival will premiere at the Pyrenees South International Cultures Festival, with a performance that promises to be a grand celebration on the floating stage of the Lanuza reservoir. On that same day and at the same venue, the festival will receive this recognition from the institution behind the cultural event and the award itself, the Provincial Council of Huesca.
In the midst of his tour of our country, Ricky is making a stop in our province, "which fills us with pride and joy," says the president of the Provincial Council of Huesca (DPH), Isaac Claver. "With this award, we want to highlight his impressive artistic career, but also his commitment, activism, and tireless defense of human rights and diversity through his foundation and his support for the LGBTQ+ community. We believe he is an example of how music and culture can be powerful forces for a better society," he adds.
Other artists from this year's festival will also receive awards in the 'Music and Integration' category, including Mexican singer Lila Downs (who performed on July 14) and Cuban musician Chucho Valdés (who will perform on July 25). Both highly acclaimed artists are recognized for their humanitarian and social commitment through music, as well as for blending their musical roots with other genres.
It's worth remembering that the festival was launched by the provincial institution more than three decades ago, and that it later created these awards in parallel, with the aim of highlighting the richness and cultural diversity of the planet. Among others, previous recipients include artists such as Luz Casal, Rozalén, Violadores del Verso, Paco de Lucía, and the Chilean-Mexican singer Mon Laferte, who will also be closing this year's thirty-first edition on Sunday, July 28th.
