Chronicle and results of the chess players from Fraga in the competition held on April 13 and 14 in the Ángel Orús pavilion in Barbastro
The final rounds of the Aragon Chess Championships for different age groups were played this weekend. Two more players from the Fraga Chess Club joined the three already competing in the under-10 category. These were the final results:
benjamin category
This category (under 10) was played over 8 rounds, with double sessions on Saturday and Sunday, morning and afternoon. Our representatives were Iván Rios and Diego Ramón, who both performed very well, scoring 4 out of a possible 8 points. Both were making their debut in an Aragon championship, which makes their performance even more impressive. Iván finished in 24th place, and Diego in 26th. The champion was Daniel Alonso from 'El Olivar', with 7 out of a possible 8 points.
child category
The junior category played its final four rounds this weekend, having completed the first two rounds last Sunday. Adrián Pallarés briefly took the lead after the third round, but only managed a draw in the last three, leaving him in seventh place with 3,5 points, a disappointing result. Adrián Agustín, meanwhile, wasn't as inspired as usual (most recently, when he won the provincial championship just a month ago), and finished in 16th place with 2,5 points. The tournament winner was Alcher Jaime, from Stadium Casablanca, with 5 points.
cadet category
In the cadet category, our sole participant, Jorge Casas, scored 2,5 points, placing him 13th. The player from Fraga may have displayed better play than his final score suggests, but what matters are the points earned. The title went to Zaragoza, as the champion was Máximo Lorente of Stadium Casablanca, who scored 5,5 out of a possible six points.
Overall, our players performed well. Now we await the tournament season on the Aragon circuit, about which we will provide full coverage.
