The XXVII edition of the Cinca Descent “Tu Provincia Huesca La Magia” has brought together today more than 800 participants between Fraga, Torrente de Cinca and Mequinenza
The Cinca Descent experienced its most important edition in its 27-year history today. More than 800 paddlers from 46 clubs across Spain participated in a day that transformed the Bajo/Baix Cinca region into the national epicenter of canoeing. Despite the high temperatures, the public cheered on the participants throughout the course, especially at the start in Fraga with a concert by Chelico, contributing to a fantastic atmosphere in an event that this year hosted the Spanish River Championships for the first time.
The 19-kilometer course between Fraga, Torrente de Cinca, and Mequinenza once again combined high-level sport with popular participation in an edition that brought together some of the best paddlers in the country as well as numerous enthusiasts paddling on the Cinca River for the first time. The change of dates to June allowed for optimal water flow conditions, resulting in a fast and spectacular race.
The event has also gained wider recognition thanks to live streaming on YouTube and Aragón Play, Aragón TV's digital platform. The entire Descent is now available to stream on both platforms.
In the sporting arena, the Spanish Rivers Championships crowned Marc Martínez and Mario Masià , from the Algemesí Canoeing Club, as Spanish champions in the K2 Absolute category. In the Men's K1 Individual category, the national title went to Abel García , from the La Llongar club , after winning a very demanding race.
The competition also produced other notable names. European champion María Martínez and Carlos Moreno , both from the Algemesí Canoeing Club, won the Mixed K2. Amaia Osaba triumphed in the Women's Master K1, while Emma Gómez and Cristina Martín , from the Alberche Kayak Club, won the Women's Senior Master K2. Furthermore, the president of the Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation, Javier Hernanz , participated in the event and finished second in the Master K1 category.
In the club classification, Club Deportivo Básico Los Cuervos Klockner Pentaplast has been proclaimed winner with 349 points , followed by Club Escuela Piragüismo Aranjuez and Club Polideportivo Iuxtanam , confirming the high sporting level of this edition.
Beyond the competition, the Cinca Descent once again stood out for its open and accessible nature. Alongside the elite athletes, hundreds of fans, many of them first-timers, shared the river, all praising the beauty of the course, the atmosphere throughout the day, and the quality of the organization.
The organization has mobilized more than 200 volunteers and an operation of around 350 people including technical staff, clubs, associations, Civil Protection, Firefighters, Civil Guard, security services and collaborating companies, making possible the development of a test that requires complex coordination throughout the entire route.
The event was attended by the president of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, Reyes Pascual , along with the regional councilors for sports and tourism, Adolfo Sasot and Javier Carrasquer , as well as other members of the regional council. Also present were the mayor of Mequinenza, Antonio Sanjuán; the mayor of Torrente de Cinca, Rubén Morell; the mayor of Arriondas, Emilio García Longo—the town where the historic International Descent of the Sella River originated—and Javier Catalán , deputy mayor of Fraga and provincial deputy.
During the awards ceremony, the Cinca Values Award was also given to Tejera Consultores , in recognition of their continued commitment to the Cinca Descent.
The inaugural Spanish River Canoeing Championship has marked a milestone in the history of the Cinca Descent. The participation of the national elite alongside hundreds of fans, the involvement of institutions, volunteers, and sponsors, the enthusiastic public response, and the extensive coverage achieved through live broadcasting have made this 27th edition a watershed moment for an event that has proven its ability to position the Lower/Baix Cinca region among the leading destinations for Spanish canoeing.
