The Fraga Chess Club brings us the chronicles of the local players in both championships
ARAGON AGE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Aragon Chess Championships for different age groups began last Sunday, April 7th, at the headquarters of the Aragonese Artistic Association in Zaragoza. Specifically, the children's, cadet, and junior categories kicked off, with six rounds played in each round, with games lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes per player plus a 30-second increment per move. Next week, the remaining categories (under-6, under-3, and beginner) will join them at the Barbastro venue. The Fraga Chess Club fielded three players in this opening round, and two more will join them next week.
child category
The children's category played a double round (at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM). In the first round, Adrián Agustín defeated Lorien Moliner, and Adrián Pallarés did the same against Oscar Soler. In the second round, by a twist of fate, our players faced each other. This time, Pallarés emerged victorious, maintaining his lead in the tournament.
In the standings after the first two rounds, Adrián Pallarés is third with two points, tied with leader Alcher Jaime, and Adrián Agustín is tenth with one point. In the third round, Pallarés will face one of the top favorites, Héctor Lorente. And Adrián Agustín will play against one of the season's biggest revelations, Héctor Carceller from Binéfar.
cadet category
In the cadet category, our only participant is Jorge Casas, who had mixed results: in the first round he lost to Catalin Conon, and in the second he defeated Jorge Valero. In the standings, Jorge is thirteenth, with one point. In the third round, he will face Ángel Cristian Nae.
ARAGON TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
This Saturday, April 6th, the tenth (and final) round of the 2024 Aragon Chess Team Championship was held. Team "A" suffered a defeat, leaving them in last place in the championship, while Team "D" lost in the final round.
Honor Division
A disappointing end to the season on the final day of the championship. Team "A" faced a young, already safe-for-all team, Stadium Casablanca "B". Both teams continued their winning streaks, with our team losing 3,5-0,5. On the first board, Miguel Angel Aribau fell to Alberto Vela. Adrián Agustín De Dios and Adrián Pallarés suffered the same fate on the third and fourth boards, respectively, against Daniel Ruiz and Jaime Alcher. On the second board, Germán Casas managed to salvage a winless draw for the team against Máximo Lorente in a game that was clearly won, but unfortunately slipped away from the player from Fraga.
The team finished bottom of the table and will play in the Preferente division next year. Stadium Casablanca "A" were crowned champions after a 2-2 draw against Jaime Casas, a result that secured them first place. Joining our team in the Preferente division are ONCE Aragón and Monzón, who were relegated in the final round after losing to Actur Rey Fernando.
Away
Fraga "D" played in Monzón against their own "D" team. They also lost, 3,5 to 0,5, in another inconsequential match. Diego Córcoles, Santiago Ramo, and Braulio Crespo were the losers, while José Carmona once again scored, achieving a commendable draw on the second board. The team finished fourth with 4 points, marking a more than acceptable debut in the competition. The champion was Jaque "D", who defeated Binéfar "C" in the final round. It is worth noting that our team was the only one to defeat the Huesca-based team.
And that's all for this year. A season to forget in terms of results, but one that will surely be improved next year, when we'll fight to return to the top division. Now, on to the Aragon age group championships.
