The origins of the residence are linked to the Sisters of Charity of Saint Anne
The history of the Jaime Vera Monclús Foundation , the entity that manages the Sacred Heart Residence in Fraga, is closely linked to the history of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Anne.
Initially, the Fraga residence was located in the old building that the Sisters used as a school and hospital, where they began their work of assisting what was then called "the Asylum" and years later, what we now know as the Sacred Heart Residence was built.
But what is the origin of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Anne?
The Congregation was founded in Zaragoza on December 28, 1804, when a group of twelve women arrived accompanied by Father Juan Bonal to serve at the Royal and General Hospital of Our Lady of Grace . There, as Sisters of Charity , they shared the lives and fates of the sick, the mentally ill, abandoned children, and all those who sought refuge in the charity of this Hospital, whose motto was Domus Infirmorum Urbis et Orbis, House of the Sick of the City and the World.
The Congregation began its expansion after the death of Maria Ràfols and, currently, has two hundred and forty-two communities, more than three hundred centers in twenty-nine countries on five continents and one thousand seven hundred and fifty-two Sisters who, supported by a large group of lay people, want to transmit the love and mercy of God, be attentive to the needs of those around them and close to the most vulnerable in the different fields where they work: Education , Health and Social Action.
Evolution from Asylum to Residence
Years have passed since it was known as "The Asylum" until it became the current Sacred Heart of Jesus Residence. The center in Fraga has spent years renovating and improving both its facilities and the services it offers to residents. The Jaime Vera Monclús Foundation manages the residence through a board of trustees, with an organizational structure comprised of a Managing Director and a Management Committee, implementing the values and mission defined by the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Anne.
But, in addition, this July 26th, the residence is celebrating twice over.
According to Christian tradition, Saints Joachim and Anne are celebrated on July 26th. Both are considered patron saints of grandparents; they were good people who awaited the promises of Yahweh.
To mark this date, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Residence has organized several activities for its users and their families.
At 11 a.m. there will be a Eucharist, at 12 p.m. there will be a vermouth and, in the afternoon, at 17:30 p.m., the Ball de Coques Workshop will take place, thanks to the project of the Fragatino jota dancers to recover this piece of local folklore.
As is customary, July 26 will serve, once again, as an excellent reason for celebration and togetherness among the center's staff, users and family members, to celebrate this date in honor of grandparents.
Strategic plan for improving facilities and services
For several years now, this residence in Fraga has undergone a major transformation of its facilities . The common areas and bathrooms in the day center have been renovated , and the terraces have been adapted for future projects. Six new bedrooms have been added , and the climate control system is being upgraded with a home automation system that will significantly improve user comfort and the building's energy efficiency.
The center's strategic plan , which, among other things, aims to adapt the facilities to the new center accreditation model, is allowing Sagrado Corazón de Jesús to enhance its services and position this residence as a benchmark in the Bajo/Baix Cinca region.
Improvements are always necessary, but in the last seven years, the residence has undergone a more profound renovation, adapting to new models of care for the elderly and improving both its services and facilities.
