For the first time, the Civil Guard's Mounted Unit will be deployed in Fraga to support public safety efforts within the municipality, as well as in other parts of the region . These units have only previously been present in the area during the Monegros Desert Festival, for functions related to the event, such as crowd control.
On this occasion, the presence of this group is due to the reinforcement of citizen security work that the Civil Guard usually carries out, in collaboration with the Local Police, with a special focus on rural areas and the agricultural campaign.
Captain Rubén Calle Prado, head of the Civil Guard Company in Fraga, explained that the presence of this unit is not due to an extraordinary situation , but rather a reinforcement. This group supports the public safety units when they experience peak workloads that require the assistance of the Mounted Group. “ We are currently finishing the fruit harvest season, and that is the main reason for their presence in this area .” “ They will be here for several weeks and will be stationed at various points throughout the region .”
Travelling on horseback allows them to move more nimbly and reach areas that are more difficult to access on foot or by motor vehicle . This reinforcement will be very significant in improving safety in the region, providing additional visibility and proximity, with special attention to agricultural areas and rural roads.

For its part, the Fraga City Council welcomed the Civil Guard's Cavalry Group outside the Institutional Building on Tuesday, September 3rd, at midday. Mayor Ignacio Gramun took the opportunity to thank the Deputy Government Delegate in Huesca, Carlos Campo, for deeming the reinforcement of personnel in the city necessary.
At the Local Security Board meeting last April , Gramun conveyed the need and request for increased security during the agricultural season , and according to the town hall, this request has resulted in the arrival of this unit. The Civil Guard's Mounted Group will be present in Fraga for the next few weeks, along with the Reserve and Security Group (GRS) , which will arrive in the capital of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region in the coming days, the mayor stated.
“ We need a little more reinforcement during the campaign months . That's why I think this is a particularly important day for our city, as they have listened to our request ,” said Gramun, who added: “ Next year we will also make the request and we will see if it is possible to have that extra security in Fraga during the months of July and August .”
Gramun insisted that “ we are not in a special situation, but I do want to highlight the work that both the Civil Guard and the Local Police are doing in the city and throughout the territory .”
