The President of the Huesca Provincial Council, the mayors of Fraga and Chalamera, regional councilors, as well as provincial and regional deputies have come to celebrate the pilgrimage
Dozens of residents of Ontiñena, along with many others from various towns in the Bajo Cinca region and the Monegros area, enjoyed the traditional San Gregorio pilgrimage. Isaac Claver, president of the Huesca Provincial Council, was among those who didn't want to miss this celebration. " Pilgrimages are a true reflection of our roots, traditions, and rural pride ," he said. Claver and the other authorities were welcomed by the mayor of Ontiñena, Javier Ferrer, to celebrate this tradition on a sunny day with beautiful weather.
The hermitage of San Gregorio was very busy. There was no shortage of festive atmosphere, with music from the brass band "Los Metralletas," lunch, a traditional Aragonese Mass, blessed bread, and the traditional meal with friends and family at various country houses and farms. The Spanish Association Against Cancer also participated with a merchandise stand.
Among the authorities who attended the gathering at the hermitage were the mayor of Fraga, José Ignacio Gramún; the mayor of Chalamera, regional councilor, and provincial deputy, Santiago Vilas; the regional deputy, Antonio Romero; and other figures from regional and provincial politics. The president of the Provincial Council highlighted the wonderful atmosphere of the event and praised the numerous pilgrimages in the Alto Aragón region.
The Hermitage of San Gregorio de Ontiñena served as a pilgrim hostel during the Middle Ages for those traveling to the Monastery of Sijena. It is located in the mountain range of the same name, about 16 kilometers from the town center. The complex comprises a house attached to the hermitage, a chapel, and a storage building.
