Ontiñena kicks off its festivities with a tribute to the groups that have fought against the fires

The president of the Provincial Council of Huesca, Isaac Claver, accompanied the residents of Ontiñena last night at the start of their patron saint festivities.

The president of the Huesca Provincial Council, Isaac Claver, joined the residents of Ontiñena last night for the start of their patron saint festivities in honor of the Holy Relic. He participated in the opening address alongside the town's mayor, Javier Ferrer, regional deputies such as María José Vicente, Carlos Dueso, and Antonio Romero, and the president of the Bajo Cinca district, Reyes Pascual. This event marked the beginning of the highly anticipated festivities for the town's residents and was characterized by recognition of those who have ensured the safety and security of the area in recent months.

The opening address was given by firefighters, forest firefighters, Civil Protection volunteers, police officers, and Civil Guard members—groups that played a fundamental role during the wildfires that ravaged various parts of the province of Huesca this summer. The tribute also held special significance in Ontiñena, as its approximately 500 residents include representatives from all these groups who participated in firefighting efforts and emergency operations during the fires. With this gesture, the City Council wished to publicly acknowledge their dedication and commitment to protecting the residents and the environment.

Isaac Claver highlighted the City Council's decision and praised the efforts of these groups. “It was a truly excellent move by the Ontiñena City Council to honor and recognize these groups as the festival's official announcers. They have carried out arduous, tireless, and essential work throughout the summer fighting the wildfires that have plagued the province of Huesca. It is only right that the festivities also serve as a public expression of gratitude for their commitment, professionalism, and dedication,” stated the President of the Provincial Council of Huesca.

Following the opening proclamation, the celebration continued with a large gala that brought together hundreds of residents of Ontiñena. During the event, the first traditional scarves were presented to the babies born in the town this year, a touching tradition symbolizing their integration into the festive life of the municipality. The gala concluded with the crowning of the young men and women who will be the stars of this year's festivities, in an atmosphere of joy and participation that officially kicked off the celebrations in honor of the Holy Relic.
