New specifications for Pirineos Sur

Pirineos Sur

The extraordinary plenary session of the Huesca Provincial Council unanimously approved the new tender specifications for the Pyrenees South International Festival of Cultures, which has been held for over three decades at the Lanuza Natural Auditorium. The new contract will have an initial duration of two years, with the possibility of two one-year extensions, and raises its estimated value to 6,2 million euros with the aim of continuing to improve the quality, services, and overall experience of one of the leading cultural and tourist events in the Alto Aragón region.

The Provincial Deputy for Culture, Carlos Sampériz, stated that “this new tender is being launched to improve the quality of the festival, but also out of responsibility and commitment as a governing team to Pirineos Sur, the Tena Valley, and all the people who make this cultural event possible every summer.” Sampériz emphasized that the Provincial Council wants Pirineos Sur “to remain a leading festival, with a more robust organization, better services, and an ambitious cultural program, open to the world and connected to the region .”

Among the main new features, the tender includes round-trip public transport as a mandatory part of the ticket, a measure aimed at improving mobility, organizing access to the Lanuza area and facilitating public attendance at the festival.

Furthermore, the document expressly opens the door to implementing a new mobility and accessibility plan, agreed between the Provincial Council of Huesca, the Sallent de Gállego City Council and the winning company, which will allow progress in the care of people with disabilities and reduced mobility who attend Pirineos Sur.

In terms of artistic aspects, the specifications require that the program be diverse, varied, and innovative. Furthermore, they stipulate that at least five international artists must headline the festival , out of a total of six, thus reinforcing the international identity that has historically characterized Pirineos Sur.

The festival in the Alto Aragón region has consolidated its prestige in recent years, receiving three prestigious awards in 2025: the Medal for Tourist Merit of Aragón, Musical Destination of the Year at the TIIM Awards, and Best Cultural Project in Aragón within the "Best of Culture" program. Furthermore, in 2026 it was recognized as the Best Medium-Format Festival in Spain at the Iberian Festival Awards.
