The race was held on Saturday, August 17, marking the 44th edition of the modern era, since its revival in 1979.
With fewer people than in other years, due to two celebrations coinciding at the same time, the traditional footrace was held in Belver, which was celebrating its 44th edition in the modern era, since it was revived in 1979, after several years without being organized.
The race took place in the usual setting of San Antonio street, where sixteen athletes, eleven men and five women, met to complete 35 laps (about 8 kilometers).
Alejandro Poy, in charge of organizing and controlling the race, started the race and from the first laps, the leading athletes were selected, after the peloton stretched out with the contest for the numerous prizes that were awarded during the race, exceeding 250 euros.
Lourdes Gil is in charge of monitoring the arrival of the runners in the competition for the prizes, a task she has performed with great competence for several decades.
In the early laps, Nacho Diente, from Zaragoza, and Denis Lorda, from Zuera, both from the ADA Zuera club, took the lead. Behind them, a pack splintered as they battled for the lead. Luis Polanco, from Madrid, gradually consolidated his third place as the laps progressed, while the top two positions remained uncertain. In the final laps, Nacho Diente broke away from his rival, Denis Lorda, and ran unopposed to the finish line.
Juan Luis Pérez from Lleida finished in fourth place. The other runners, out of contention for the top prizes, focused on competing for bonuses. From Barbastro, Paco Sahún, Paco Dorado, and Daniel Escartín participated. From Zuera, Antonio Dorado, Jorge Pérez Picón, and Hugo Lorda, and from Monzón, Sergio Zambana.
In the women's category, after the first prize, Verónica Escartín from Barbastro and Eva Morraja from Alcañiz took the lead, finishing second and third respectively in the San Lorenzo de Huesca Grand Footrace. Marta Millaruelo, also from Barbastro, constantly expended energy competing for prizes with her teammates and other runners, becoming exhausted and without a chance of the top two places, and had to settle for third.
The other two female participants were Laura Rosell from Lleida, who holds the record for victories in this race with eight wins, and her daughter Judith Pérez, who is already rivaling her mother.
The women's champion was decided on the last lap in favor of the young woman from Barbastro, Verónica Escartín, who imposed her greater speed in the final sprint, contested with the veteran Eva Morraja, from Alcañiz.
The most charming moment of the race was provided by runner and jota singer Jorge Pérez Picón, who sang the jota that the champions, Nacho Dieste and Verónica Escartín, danced.
