The Mequinenza Town Council has announced the program of events for the Mequinenza Street Performing Arts Festival “A Sol y Serena,” which will take place on May 24th and 25th. The main novelty of this cultural event, now in its fourth edition, is that the activities have been concentrated into two days. In 2024, the international festival focuses on contemporary circus arts, with activities for all ages that will fill the town's streets and squares with color and creativity, transforming them into a hub for art and expression.
“A sol y serena” will kick off on Friday, May 24th at 7 pm in the Plaza del Cine with a feline parade, a performance from Barcelona by the company Actúa Productions entitled “Wonderwool.” Two mischievous cats will roam the town's streets in a customized little car, creating fun and unusual situations with the audience, turning everything upside down. Following this, at 8:30 pm in the courtyard of the María Quintana School, the Argentinian company Derecha-Izquierda will present an acrobatic circus performance, “UOP última oportunidad” (UOP Last Chance), which highlights how economic survival, emotional exhaustion, and the psychological instability experienced by a segment of society continue to be the currency for personal dignity.
The second day of the Festival will begin with a children's clown theater performance scheduled for Saturday, May 25th at 7:00 pm at the Municipal Swimming Pools. The Aragonese company Peliagudo Arte y Circo will present "Dad, I'm a Fakir," based on the life of filmmaker Segundo Chomón. The show features a clown who pursues his dreams, even though things don't always go quite as planned. Following this, at 8:30 pm at the Red Ring, the Navarrese company La Tracepcionista will present their choreographic circus show "Artxipiélago," which makes the essential visible.
The closing event of the fourth edition of the Mequinenza Street Performing Arts Festival “A Sol y Serena” will feature a concert by Ghanaian singer Jessica Abu in an incomparable setting on the banks of the Segre River, nestled among pine trees, in an area between Plaza Joaquín Torres and the riverfront promenade, at 10:30 p.m. The singer, who was raised and musically trained in Italy, will present a repertoire of classic and timeless soul, rhythm & blues, and funk standards.
