The Provincial Council of Zaragoza requests the declaration of Mequinenza as a disaster zone due to the storm of July 1st and the fire that burned 85 hectares of woodland
Following the discovery of a cigarette butt as the likely cause of the fire that broke out on July 3rd, the Mequinenza Town Council has issued a public appeal through its digital channels , urging everyone to take extra precautions to prevent forest fires and appealing to everyone's sense of responsibility to avoid a recurrence of such situations at a time when the risk of fires is high.
A total of 85 hectares of woodland were burned, with some damage to crops, forcing a power outage that affected the town and neighboring municipalities, also impacting mobile phone service . Despite the proximity of the flames and being evacuated twice, the Bellavista campsite was undamaged and resumed normal operations once the fire was extinguished, according to the town council.
On the other hand, the Plenary of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza (DPZ) has requested the Government of Spain to declare the municipality of Mequinenza a disaster zone due to the damage caused by the hailstorm on June 30 and July 1 and also by the fire recently recorded in the town.
