Mequinenza Futsal wins its third Regional League title after defeating Barbería VAV on penalties in the decisive third game

The Cortes de Aragón Pavilion in Fraga hosted the decisive match of the Regional Futsal League final between Barbería VAV and Mequinenza. The third game of the final ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time, a thrilling encounter that ultimately went to penalties. The green-clad team, Barbería VAV, converted their spot kicks to secure the victory and their third league title, capping off a perfect season after winning the League Cup in May at the tournament held in Candasnos.
Barbería VAV took an early lead in the first minute with a goal from Raymy Michael, responding to an earlier chance for Julián Gómez from Mequinenza Fútbol Sala. The green-clad team recovered, and three minutes later, Pau Soler leveled the score with 40 minutes remaining. The yellow-clad team stepped up their game, increasing the pace of the match, which allowed them to dominate possession and stifle their opponents, who looked very solid, with Daniel Borbón making three outstanding saves in goal. The battle for the title intensified in a thrilling final few minutes of the first half, with chances for both sides.
In the second half, the home side eased off the pressure after their efforts in the first 25 minutes, which benefited Mequinenza, who weren't under as much pressure. It was crucial not to slip up in such a tight match, and both teams, while still attacking, took fewer risks, aware that a goal from the opposition could prove decisive. Mequinenza had a golden opportunity to win the game with 11 minutes remaining when Pau Soler's shot struck the post with the goalkeeper beaten. Barbería's fatigue was evident, and the visitors tried to capitalize, creating the final chances of the game to break the deadlock, but the score remained unchanged.
After regulation time, the 2023-2024 Regional Futsal League championship went to penalties. David Llop opened the scoring for Mequinenza, converting the first penalty, while Barbería's shot hit the post. Iván Navarro extended Barbería's lead by scoring the second. The home side then scored their second penalty, and it was time for the third, which ultimately proved decisive. Aarón Obiol converted his penalty, leaving the visitors with no chance and securing the victory for Mequinenza. The team received the tournament trophy from Darío Vidallet, the Mequinenza Town Council's Culture Councillor, and began celebrating their title in the stands with the large crowd of fans who had traveled to watch the match.
