The opening triangular tournament pitted the home team against Deportivo Sobrarbe and Club de Futbol L'Albagés.
The official unveiling of the artificial turf at the "Las Rías" Municipal Stadium in Mequinenza featured the six teams of Mequinenza Club Deportivo, from youth to amateur levels, and by extension, the more than one hundred players who will compete representing the Club this season. Ibai Blas, Edgar Garí, Karim García, and Marc Vilanova, representing the U14, U12, U14, and U16 teams, Iris Catalán representing the women's team, and the captains of the U18 and amateur teams, Paulo Rodes and Joel Castro, respectively, performed the ceremonial kickoff before the preseason triangular tournament that pitted the home team against Deportivo Sobrarbe and Club de Futbol L'Albagés.
Mequinenza won the preseason triangular tournament in the first sporting event held at the newly renovated facility. The home side saw Club Futbol L'Albagés easily defeat Deportivo Sobrarbe 2-0 in the first match. The second match pitted the hosts against the visitors from Alto Aragón, who took an early lead with a penalty, but Mequinenza rallied to win 2-1. The tournament was decided in the third and final match, with Mequinenza defeating the Catalan side 2-0.
At the inauguration ceremony, Manuel Torralba, president of the Aragonese Football Federation, expressed his satisfaction with the investment made by the local and provincial governments in the facility, stating that "this is a clear example of what we like to see happening for playing football." Paco Martínez, president of Club Mequinenza, echoed this sentiment, acknowledging that the much-needed improvement had finally become a reality. He emphasized "the involvement of everyone in promoting grassroots football, the future of this century-old club," and encouraged those present to become members to support the project.
Miguel Ángel Llop, the sports councilor, apologized for the absence of Antonio Sanjuán, the mayor of Mequinenza, due to family reasons, and spoke about the club's century-long history. He expressed his satisfaction "at being able to launch a remodeled facility designed with the future of our players and coaches in mind," which will put an end "to the limitations of having a natural grass or dirt field, as we have had this past season." He also appealed to fans, spectators, and players to "appreciate the effort that has already been made to maintain the facility," which represents an investment of €386.920,80.
Deputy Mayor Débora Bravo began her speech by saying, “Finally, we can walk on green again after the suffering of these past few seasons.” She emphasized the effort involved in the project, financed through the Unified Grant Plan (PLUS) of the Provincial Council of Zaragoza (DPZ), noting that “the priority remains the opening of the Residence and Day Center, without neglecting other things like the maintenance of the infrastructure we use every day.” Therefore, more than half a century after the move to the current town center, “it is necessary to update and renovate the facilities, actions that we will have to plan and carry out according to the economic resources available to us and that must be implemented in a planned manner over the coming years.” She highlighted the work and involvement of the town's associations in developing activities and expressed her conviction that, with the new field, “you will make us enjoy it.”
Finally, Abraham Martínez, provincial deputy, emphasized that the inauguration "brings to a close two intense years of work to bring artificial turf to 'Las Rías'." He also expressed his pride in having been able to achieve the objectives set with the City Council and in the fact that the funds, provided through the Provincial Council, "are yielding such positive results with this new turf, which will surely bring much joy to the fans and the municipality." Before the ceremonial kickoff and the conclusion of the official event, which was also attended by the rest of the municipal council, a gift exchange took place between the Club, the Aragonese Football Federation, the Mequinenza City Council, and the Zaragoza Provincial Council.
