The company has two months to deliver and install the supplies. The furniture and equipment for the kitchen, laundry, and remaining rooms will need to be awarded in the next fiscal year.
The Mequinenza Town Council has awarded the first contract for equipping the Magda Godia Senior Citizens' Residence and Day Center to the Aragonese company Industrias Hidráulicas Pardo SL, for €181.470,96. This figure represents slightly less than a third of the initial investment planned for furnishing and equipping the entire building, according to the council. With this funding, they hope to expedite the opening of the Residence and Day Center at 50% capacity, so that it can offer services to those who need them as soon as possible, once they obtain the necessary permits from the Government of Aragon. The total amount allocated for the supply, assembly, and installation of furniture and equipment for the complete opening is €670.000.
With the awarding of this first batch, the building is provided with the necessary equipment and furniture to receive 39 of the 78 planned residential users, the rooms on the first floor of the building, the day center, the dining room, the library, the offices, the medical consultation rooms, the treatment room, the storage and waste management areas, the staff changing rooms, the non-denominational oratory, the spaces for family care, the reception and the rehabilitation area, as well as various elements of technical and medical aids for the care of the users.
With the installation of these elements, for which the company has a two-month deadline for delivery and installation of the supplies, the furniture and equipment for the kitchen, the laundry room and the remaining rooms, which correspond to the second floor, will remain to be awarded, already looking ahead to the next fiscal year, as well as finishing completing the elements necessary to meet the needs of all users, both residential and day center.
The Mequinenza Town Council requested €670.000 from the Bajo Cinca Regional Council at the end of last year, according to the council, and the funds are still pending. The Mequinenza Town Council states that they have a sufficient budget allocation for equipping their care home, based on a resolution passed unanimously by the regional council in April 2023. The Mequinenza Town Council argues that this allocation disappeared from the regional council's 2024 budget, confirming the current administration's decision not to honor its commitments to facilitate the implementation of a service needed by all residents of the Bajo Cinca region and neighboring municipalities, especially the elderly and their families. This should prompt reflection on the priorities when addressing citizens' needs.
