ASAPME Huesca, the Huesca Association for Mental Health, is a non-profit organization that focuses its attention on the psychosocial recovery of people with mental illness and their families.
At ASAPME Huesca, they are committed to promoting resources for mental health care in rural areas, working in coordination with the Mental Health Unit, Basic Social Services, and local social and healthcare organizations. Since June 2023, thanks to the support of the Department of Health, the team has expanded to include two Social Integrators, who, along with the Social Worker/Coordinator and the Occupational Therapist, provide services through a Day Center, Community Social Team, Employment Integration Center, and Social Awareness programs. The Fraga Health Center has provided them with rooms 5 and 6, as well as a group therapy room, for individual and group interventions aimed at improving the quality of life of people with mental illness and their families in the Fraga and Bajo Cinca area.
The initial activity began in 1994 in Huesca, with a group of family members of people affected by mental illness joining together to improve their quality of life, promoting, in coordination with the services of the Public Administration, the creation of resources and care services.
ASAPME Huesca has progressed steadily over the years. The association movement has grown, consolidating its headquarters in Huesca and providing coverage to a large part of the province's rural area through the opening of the Monzón branch (1999) and the current Day Center in Monzón (2007).
Since the start of activities at the Day Center in Monzón, and due to the geographical distance and the inadequate transport service for patients to access the Center in Monzón, intervention began in the Mental Health area of the High Resolution Center in Fraga to develop Psychosocial Recovery activities. Thus, the Occupational Therapist and the Social Worker were transferred to Fraga to serve the group in the area.
Likewise, with the aim of informing and educating the student and teacher community about Mental Health, we developed awareness sessions at the Bajo Cinca Secondary School in Fraga.
