The 38th Ontiñena School Cross Country Race will take place on Friday, February 2nd in this municipality of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region.
This race is one of the pioneering activities in the province of Huesca within the school schedule, where coexistence, sportsmanship and cooperation are above all competition.
This cross-country event is part of the Bajo Cinca Monegros Games, an activity created to foster solidarity among residents of the participating regions through community and sport. It is organized by the physical education teachers from the Bajo/Baix Cinca, Cinca Medio, and Monegros regions, the San Gregorio School in Ontiñena, the Ontiñena Town Council, and the Bajo/Baix Cinca Regional Council, with the collaboration of the local Parents' Association (AMYPA).
At 10:00 AM, participants will be received at the sports hall, followed by a parade through the town to the football field, where the various races will take place until 12:30 PM. The sporting program will consist of eight races for the youngest age groups (grades 3-6), followed by races for preschool and grades 1-2. The morning will conclude with fun runs for parents and a new obstacle course, set up inside the football field. Awards and certificates will be presented afterward.
More than 200 schoolchildren from the Bajo Cinca, Cinca Medio and Monegros regions are expected to attend, representing 16 educational centers. Schools from Albalate de Cinca, Alcolea de Cinca, Sena, Castejón de Monegros, Peñalba, Ballobar, Belver de Cinca, Candasnos, Chalamera, Ontiñena, Osso de Cinca, Zaidín, San José de Calasanz Fraga, María Moliner Fraga, Santa Ana Fraga and Miguel Servet Fraga have confirmed their participation.
The Bajo Cinca Monegros Games have three important events scheduled for this academic year. Following the Traditional Games event, held last October in Belver de Cinca, the games will continue in Ontiñena in February and conclude with the Athletics event in Candasnos next April. Together, these events are expected to bring together more than 900 schoolchildren from the three participating districts.
