The Huesca Provincial Council is continuing one of its most established educational and regional development initiatives this season: the 2026 school ski program. This program allows 2.519 children and young people from schools throughout the province to "enjoy the snow and learn to practice a sport closely linked to our Pyrenees," emphasizes President Isaac Claver. The provincial institution has strengthened the program with a 10% budget increase, reaching €325.000, allocated to support the ten districts of the Alto Aragón region, which are once again participating in the program in two formats: overnight and day trips.
“The aim of this plan is to promote school skiing, making it easier for families to learn a sport that is fundamental to our province,” emphasizes the president of the Provincial Council of Huesca (DPH), Isaac Claver, who frames the initiative as “an investment with educational and territorial impact.” Along the same lines, he points out, “This program goes beyond simply practicing the sport; it’s a strategic commitment: on the one hand, we promote an educational experience for children in a unique environment like our mountains; on the other, with each ski week, we generate activity, employment, and life in the resorts and their respective valleys.” He adds, “We want future generations to know the Pyrenees, enjoy them, and feel a part of them.”
The so-called "white weeks" are aimed at students from 4th grade of primary school up to 18 years old. Each session lasts five days, always from Monday to Friday, consecutive or not depending on the program. In all cases, specific training is guaranteed, as the program must include courses with a minimum duration of 15 hours.
The campaign is organized through the different districts and offers broad coverage of eligible expenses. These include: transportation to the slopes, half-board accommodation (where applicable), meals on the slopes, ski passes, ski lessons, equipment rental, accident and liability insurance, as well as mandatory instructors and chaperones for students with special educational needs. With this approach, the Provincial Council aims to make the experience accessible, safe, and well-organized, further strengthening inclusion in the sports and educational sectors.
The 2026 school ski program will run until April 10th. This week, as part of the regional program, 36 students from the IES Sierra de San Quílez school in Binéfar (La Litera) are participating in activities at the Cerler ski resort. The schedule continues in the coming weeks with more trips: from February 23rd to 27th, also in Cerler, students from the schools in Peñalba and Bujaraloz will travel there. In the first week of March, students from the CEIP Santa Ana school in Fraga are scheduled to visit Panticosa, and in the second week of March, children from the CEIP La Laguna school in Sariñena, as well as students from the CRA Monegros Norte school (Lanaja) and the CRA Monegros Hoya school (Lalueza), among others, will travel to Astún.
With more than 2.500 participants and a presence throughout the territory, the campaign once again positions itself as a tool that combines education, sport and support for the mountain economy, reinforcing the link between children and young people with the Pyrenees and its alpine ski resorts.
