The Fraga City Council, the Bajo/Baix Cinca Region and Cáritas Diocesana Barbastro-Monzón highlight the great work being carried out in the Clara Campoamor accommodations
A total of 161 people have been assisted at the Fraga municipal shelter and the Clara Campoamor accommodations since the fruit-picking season began in early May. At a meeting held on Monday afternoon, the Fraga City Council, the Social Services of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, and Cáritas Diocesana Barbastro-Monzón highlighted the collaborative work being carried out at this new facility, which aims to provide housing for seasonal workers with legal status who come to work in the area.
At this meeting, a new measure was taken to adjust the length of stay at the Clara Campoamor accommodations . Previously, employed individuals could stay for up to seven days and job seekers for up to three; from now on, employed seasonal workers will be able to stay for up to three weeks, and those without employment for a maximum of seven days.
Furthermore, they emphasized the tremendous work being done by the three organizations and that, although undocumented immigrants do not have access to this housing resource intended for seasonal workers, they are still assisted by the Regional Social Services and various organizations such as Cáritas, Cruz Blanca, and the Red Cross , in accordance with established protocols. Through these protocols, undocumented immigrants have access to information, guidance, and advice, as well as support with food, clothing, and other aid, which is assessed based on individual needs.
This fruit season, the number of people arriving in the capital of Bajo Cinca to work is higher than in previous years, reaching levels similar to those of the summers before the pandemic , when there was no housing available for these people.
This increase in the population that has migrated to the area is due to optimal weather conditions and peak production , unlike recent years when significant losses occurred due to frost. As a result, the need for labor has been greater, as has the work being carried out at the Clara Campoamor accommodations—where the Fraga City Council and Cáritas have invested around €350.000.
