70 participants in the trail running event and 64 in the popular walk shared a day this weekend in the municipality of Bajo/Baix Cinca
This Sunday, March 10, nearly 140 people gathered in the municipality of Velilla de Cinca, for a magnificent day in which they were able to enjoy different activities, accompanied by good weather and a festive atmosphere.
The 2nd Velilla de Cinca Trail Race was organized by the Bajo/Baix Cinca Regional Council, the Velilla de Cinca Town Council, and the Fraga-Bajo Cinca Athletics Club. A total of 70 participants competed on two routes: one over 19 kilometers and the other over 14 kilometers.
The first race in Velilla de Cinca, part of the II Bajo/Baix Cinca Trail Cup, exceeded expectations, with 70 participants solidifying the event's place on the regional sporting calendar. The starting rocket was launched at 9:00 a.m. under pleasant temperatures and no rain. The race proceeded without incident and with very few dropouts.
The first runners crossed the finish line around 10:00 AM, with the last ones finishing around 11:150 AM. At the end of the competition, the prizes were awarded to the winners by the president of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, José Javier Ferrer; the mayor of Velilla de Cinca, Belén Ibarz; the sports councilor for the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, Adolfo Sasot; the sports councilor for Velilla de Cinca, José Luís Sanjuán; and the president of the Fraga-Bajo Cinca Athletics Club, Juan Carlos Longán.
As for the results, the first place in the long race went to Mario Mirón of Bike Run Acolea, who repeated his victory, and to Yolanda Freixa of Running Alcañiz in the women's category. In the short race, the first place went to César Mur of Atletismo Pómez de Barbastro. In the women's category, first place went to Marta Godia of CA Fraga-Bajo Cinca.
In addition, there have also been different prizes, such as a ham for the fastest runner to reach kilometer 6, which went to César Mur, and a selection of oil for the first female runner, Yolanda Freixa, for veterans, which went to Esteban Pena, from Zaidín and María Carmen Salleras, from the Fraga-Bajo Cinca Athletics Club, or the youngest prize went to Miguel Moliner.
Following the awards ceremony, a raffle was held for prizes donated by the sponsors, marking the end of the sporting event. The next event will be the 3rd Torrente de Cinca Trail Race on April 28th, where most participants are expected to return, as their times will be combined and the winners of the 2nd Bajo/Baix Cinca Trail Cup will be announced.
Taking advantage of the occasion, a walk was organized to see the flowering trees around the town, which was attended by 64 people.
