The Fraga-based club has won a gold medal, a bronze medal, and several personal bests on the indoor track in Zaragoza.
Club Atletismo Fraga concluded the weekend of February 21st and 22nd with a strong showing at the Palacio de los Deportes in Zaragoza, the venue for the Aragon U16 Championships and the qualifying meet for the U18 and U20 regional competitions. María Chavarría, from Fraga, was crowned Aragon champion in the 3.000 meters , while Awa Sangaré won bronze in the triple jump, and several athletes achieved personal bests.
Aragon Under-16 Championship in Zaragoza
The most outstanding performance came in the long-distance event. María Chavarría dominated the 3.000 meters and crossed the finish line with a time of 12:08.26 , enough to win the regional gold medal in the Under-16 category. The athlete from Fraga managed the race with ease and maintained a steady pace that allowed her to secure first place.
Awa Sangaré also reached the podium . In the triple jump, she achieved 10,34 meters, improving her personal best and securing the bronze medal. The athlete's progress in this discipline continues to solidify her place on the regional calendar.
In the sprint events, Ana Javierre finished second in her 300-meter heat and lowered her personal best to 49,27 seconds , confirming her progress in this distance. Meanwhile, Nerea Santaría cleared 1,45 meters in the high jump. Although she equaled the best mark of three other competitors, her greater number of attempts placed her fifth overall.
Brand control with an eye on the regional championship
On Sunday, several athletes from the club participated in a time trial at the same facility. Álex Margallo competed in the 400 meters, while Mariona Salamó and Iván Gross competed in the 60 meters, as part of their preparation for the Aragon Under-18 and Under-20 Championships scheduled for the coming weeks.
Podium finish for Bajo Cinca at the Sástago Trail
Aside from the activities of the Fraga club, the weekend also yielded a significant result for athletics in the Bajo/Baix Cinca region. Sergio Gallinad Beltrán, from Bajo Cinca, finished third in the Sástago Trail , a 25-kilometer race with up to 750 meters of elevation gain. The winner of this competition was Álvaro Osanz, a professional runner and current Spanish champion, which underscores the competitive level of the race.
