Huesca's reserve team was superior from start to finish, dominating the match entirely and finishing 5-0 against Gurrea.
The Diputación Cup has a winner for its inaugural edition. Iñigo Ros's SD Huesca 'B' took the final against SD Gurrea with a resounding 5-0 victory in a match where the home side dominated under the rain that soaked the pitch at El Alcoraz. The first goal came in the 10th minute, and the first half was a nightmare for Gilart's men. In the second half, the game stagnated, and Huesca waited for the final whistle after securing their comfortable lead to lift the trophy.
The match kicked off with intensity under a light rain that covered the pitch at El Alcoraz. Both teams were eager to win the Diputación Cup, but Iñigo Ros's side came out several gears ahead of Gilart's. Shortly after, in the 10th minute, Marc Torra conjured up a truly spectacular goal after cutting inside from the left wing, nutmegging the visiting defender, and then finishing with a deft touch inside the far post, leaving Martín Jiménez with little chance of stopping it.
A bucket of cold water was poured on the Gurreta players, who were eager to respond. However, SD Huesca continued their relentless attack, and just a minute after scoring the first goal, they added a second. Arón Rodrigo scored after a defensive error in Gurrea's own half, leaving them in disbelief at how they could have gifted such a lead to the blue and red side.
Gilart's team tried to respond with several long balls, but these failed to create any real danger for the Huesca B defense. After a few minutes of uneventful play, in which neither side managed to threaten the other's goal, SD Huesca 'B' struck again. Willy played a clumsy one-two with Alarcón before unleashing a powerful shot with the instep that nestled inside the far post. The third goal had arrived, and the punishment was severe.
It seemed that the first half would not bring any more surprises, but, once again, Ros's uncompromising team approached the opposing goal and after a good shot from Willy, which slipped through Martín Jiménez's hands, the fourth goal went up on the scoreboard in the 37th minute. After this, in the final minutes of the first half, Gurrea could have gone into the tunnel opening their account, but a good save from Adrián Pereda after a good cutback pass from Jhonnier to Kouma, kept the score at 4-0 at the end of the first 45 minutes.
The second part
The second half began at a high tempo. Gurrea were eager to attack and score. However, SD Huesca 'B' made it 5-0 with a goal from Marc Torra after a fine cross from Martín.
Gurrea tried to push forward and score a consolation goal. In fact, a shot from Zamora forced Pereda into a spectacular save to keep his team's score at zero. After this play, Gurrea made substitutions, and these had a noticeable impact on the pitch, as Gilart's team began to dominate possession, but they still couldn't find a way past Ros's defense.
Aside from a dubious offside call, which could have given Gurrea their first goal, little else happened in a second half characterized by a slow pace, numerous substitutions, and a flat, horizontal style of play with attacks that posed no real threat. The clock struck 90 minutes, and the match ended. SD Huesca 'B' won the inaugural Diputación Cup and, therefore, received the €4.000 prize money awarded to the first-place finisher. Gurrea took home €3.000, while Monzón, in third place, and Ontiñena, in fourth, received €2.000 and €1.000 respectively.
Finally, after awarding the medals and cash prizes, both the president of the Provincial Council of Huesca (DPH), Isaac Claver, and the president of the Royal Aragonese Football Federation, Manuel Torralba, shared several statements, highlighting the great success of this first edition. Claver remarked that “the happiness is immense. To have seen how the entire tournament unfolded in the best possible way, the enthusiasm and joy. It has been a new generation tournament. It started from scratch with 16 incredibly committed teams, who shared our enthusiasm and allowed us to enjoy a great city. As the Provincial Council, we have literally gone all out for our province's crest,” explained the president of the DPH, who added that “the objective was to generate social cohesion, so that fans, club directors, and players could have the support of their Provincial Council, in a different format, with a unique summer tournament that prepares them for the start of the season.”
Claver also explained that “we knew it was an initial format of 16 teams to test how the Cup would unfold. Teams from other categories wanted to participate, and others from the same category couldn't. All 16 participants followed the rules and showed great enthusiasm and commitment. That's why we can say we are very proud and satisfied. It's a tournament that was created with them and the province in mind, and they have all shown us their support.”
To conclude his remarks, Claver offered some hints about the plans for the second edition of the Diputación Cup. “We will improve everything we can this year. We will listen to the clubs, evaluate and analyze with them what we can improve. We will also look at ways to make the tournament grow. We will consider whether any teams will participate more, the format, the number of dates, etc. It's still early, but we already have it in mind for next summer. A first edition is always challenging, but we have new ideas for next season.”
Torralba also noted that “it was a novel tournament, an initiative of the Huesca Provincial Council. The RFAF (Royal Andalusian Football Federation) has been supporting it and doing its part, primarily in organization. For a first edition, it's been very successful. All the clubs have expressed their support for the initiative, considering it a very positive training phase before the upcoming season. We will try to expand it to other regions in future editions.”
Furthermore, the RFAF leader emphasized that “there are many options; there is still a year until we have the opportunity to compete in this competition again. We will think together with the institutions, with the DPH of course, although we will speak with others as well to extend it to more Aragonese territories. After this edition, there is demand for this competition to expand.”
