The UNED classroom in Fraga hosts an interesting conference on 'Queens, ladies and women. Women in the royal house of Aragon between the 11th and 13th centuries '
Dr. Anabel Lapeña Paúl, a historian, will be in charge of speaking about this little-known part of the history of Aragon and will reveal some of the hidden protagonists who helped to build kingdoms in the Middle Ages.
Anabel has been a professor at the University of Zaragoza and, apart from countless publications, has a book on the same topic with Ana Segura and a podcast on Aragón Radio.
The talk has two aspects: the first is to examine the general situation of women in the Middle Ages, highlighting their exclusion from many spheres of life from the 13th century onward; the second focuses specifically on the queens of Aragon between the 11th and 13th centuries, emphasizing the most unique aspects of each. Topics will include the mistresses of some monarchs, the mistreatment of another, the queen who acted as a surrogate, the queen who gave birth to the Crown of Aragon, and so on.
The conference will take place on Thursday, February 29th at 17 p.m. in the UNED Classroom in Fraga.
