It is a non-competitive event with a 112-kilometer route passing through 12 towns in the Bajo Cinca and Cinca Medio regions, culminating in the legendary Subida al Castillo (Castle Climb).
The Mequinenza Cycling Club has opened registration for the 27th Villa de Mequinenza Cyclotourist Ride, to be held on July 7th. This non-competitive event, organized in collaboration with the Mequinenza Town Council, covers 112 kilometers and passes through 12 towns in the Bajo Cinca and Cinca Medio regions: Torrente de Cinca, Velilla de Cinca, Ballobar, Chalamera, Ontiñena, Alcolea, Albalate, Belver, Osso, Zaidín, Fraga, and Mequinenza. The ride remains on the official calendar as the only event of its kind organized in the area.
The ride is scheduled to start at 8:00 AM from the Plaza del Minero in Mequinenza and will finish after midday with the legendary climb to the town's castle, a 1,5-kilometer ascent with gradients of up to 14%, and a substantial prize for the winner. Three refreshment points are located along the route: in Ontiñena, where the town council provides lunch for the participants; in Zaidín, where the riders regroup before the final stretch and the Zaidín Cycling Club offers refreshments; and in Torrente de Cinca, the last stop where, thanks to the collaboration of the "La Torrentina" Housewives Association, the cyclists can replenish their energy for the final leg of the ride.
Registration is now open, with prices of €21 for non-members and €12 for members. For members of the Mequinenza Cycling Club, the price is €12 for non-members and free for members. Registration can be completed online at www.ccmequinenza.com until July 4th , with a raffle for a ham among those who register online by June 21st. Alternatively, registration can be completed in person, just before the start of the race, from 7:15 to 7:50 a.m., at the Municipal Sports Center, where the showers are located. All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and will be eligible for various trophies, including awards for the youngest cyclist, oldest cyclist, largest club, and club that traveled the farthest (with a minimum of three participants).
