The farmers participated in this event, held in the capital of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, which focused on working towards a more efficient use of water and ensuring that it is available from the beginning to the end of each growing season.
The event, held in Fraga and entitled " Irrigation Campaign Management ," featured speeches by the Minister of Agriculture of the Government of Aragon, Ángel Samper; the President of the Ebro River Basin Authority (CHE), Carlos Arrazola; and his counterpart at the General Irrigation Community, José Luis Pérez, as well as various stakeholders involved in water resource management. The Mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramun, opened the event, and the closing remarks were delivered by the Director General of Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Isabel Bombal.
Water consumption in Spanish irrigation systems has decreased by more than 15% in the last 25 years thanks to digitalization. The Aragon and Catalonia Canal is an example of efficient water management, and its present and future were discussed this Thursday by the 500 irrigators gathered in Fraga.
Following this event, the Aragonese councilor, Ángel Samper; together with Juanjo Orries, Director General of Innovation and Food Promotion of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Food, accompanied by the mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramun, visited the Bajo/Baix Cinca region and met with the councilors, deputies and councilors present at the event.
