The grape harvest in Aragon is expected to yield 102 million kilos of grapes.

This week ' Aragón Alimentos Nobles ' tells us about the grape harvest in Aragón

September is undoubtedly the prime month for the grape harvest in Aragon, extending into early October, depending on the grape variety and its ripening.

In Aragon, a variety of grapes are cultivated, distinguished by their quality and their adaptation to each microclimate and soil type. Among the red varieties, Garnacha stands out as one of Aragon's most emblematic grapes, along with Cariñena or Mazuela, used to produce robust red wines with good aging potential. Garnacha Blanca and Chardonnay are the predominant white grape varieties.

The 2024 grape harvest in Aragon is expected to yield approximately 102 million kilos of grapes, a figure very similar to that of the previous season.

In Aragon there are four designations of origin: Cariñena is the oldest in Aragon, known for its robust red wines made with Garnacha and Cariñena; Campo de Borja, famous for its intense and fruity red wines made mainly with Garnacha; Calatayud, known for its full-bodied and aromatic red wines, made mainly with Garnacha; and Somontano, where reds made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo predominate, as well as its fresh and aromatic whites made from Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer.

Pago de Aylés is also produced in the Community, the only single-estate wine in Aragon and one of the few in Spain, and several protected geographical indications (PGI) for Wines of the Land.

Wine has been an integral part of Aragonese gastronomy and culture for centuries. Its versatility and rich flavors make it an ideal accompaniment to a wide variety of dishes, enhancing their taste. Its antioxidant properties can have beneficial health effects when consumed in moderation.
