Sustainability, the new pillar on which SARGA's 2024-2027 Strategic Plan revolves

The Aragonese public company has introduced a sustainability component in its new Strategic Plan 2024-2027

Sustainability is integrated across all areas of SARGA. It is present in the organization's daily operations and is inherent to the way everyone works. Therefore, for the first time since its creation, the public company has included a sustainability component in its new 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, a decision that highlights the value of its activities and their socioeconomic and environmental impact on Aragonese society.

As the body responsible for implementing the agri-environmental policies of the Government of Aragon, the SARGA Directorate is aware of the responsibility that its work entails, which is sustainable in itself, and its strategic importance as a generator of economic and social development for the Aragonese community.

Thus, in its action plan, SARGA's sustainability strategy addresses not only compliance with European regulations on reporting and transparency, but also the analysis of issues that are truly important to its stakeholders. These include the regional government, SARGA's client and owner, and its more than 1.500 employees spread throughout Aragon, who contribute to rural development and support local communities.

Furthermore, it is the Aragonese society as a whole that receives and enjoys the services offered by SARGA. On the one hand, because the maintenance of the environment has a positive impact on their well-being; on the other, as individual users of activities in natural and protected areas and of environmental education initiatives.

SARGA's new sustainability initiative also includes calculating the carbon footprint of its operations and its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the framework of the 2030 Agenda. As a public company dedicated to the protection and conservation of the environment, SARGA must play a leading role in the sustainability value chain, raising awareness and supporting all those who, in one way or another, are part of the organization. In this regard, the public company aspires to be a model and catalyst for its suppliers and contractors to incorporate best practices and sustainable criteria in economic, social, and environmental matters.

An example of this commitment to developing a sustainability management model at SARGA and improving its performance in this area to become a benchmark was the First Meeting of Public Companies, promoted by the Aragonese public company. Held last May in Torla and Ordesa, this event focused on sustainability as one of the main topics discussed with counterpart companies from other participating regions, along with occupational risk prevention and the fight against forest fires.
