Police checkpoints have caused heavy traffic jams on several roads in Catalonia
The Mossos d'Esquadra have activated the 'Cage' operation , with checkpoints on several roads , to try to locate the former president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, who has disappeared after his speech at a rally in Barcelona.
Puigdemont is wanted on an arrest warrant and has returned to Spain after nearly seven years on the run from justice.
This morning, several residents of municipalities near Bajo/Baix Cinca, in the province of Lleida, have stated that they have suffered traffic jams when trying to access this region , due to the measures of the search operation for the former president.
The return of Carles Puigdemont is generating strong political tension and, at the time of this publication, his whereabouts remain unknown.
