The alleged perpetrators attempted to rob an occupied residence. They had prior records for similar offenses. Once brought before a judge, they were remanded in custody.
Last Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the Civil Guard patrol, while carrying out observation and crime prevention work in residential areas of the town of Fraga, observed at about 11:00 a.m. how two men in dark sportswear were calling several doorbell buttons in a building belonging to the town of Fraga, and when no neighbor opened the door, they took out a screwdriver from their belongings and tried to force the access door.
At that moment, the patrol realized that the individuals in question might be committing a crime, so they approached them to identify them. Seeing the officers approach, one of the men quickly hid the tool in his clothing.
The officers proceeded to superficially search the two suspects after urging them to place on the ground what they were carrying in their clothing.
Thus, in addition to carrying black gloves and children's size socks in their pockets, a large flat screwdriver, cardboard and pieces of cut plastic, black tubular scarves of the type used to hide the face and a black fanny pack were found hidden among their clothes, which contained bills of various currencies, a prepaid telephone card and various documents.
The instruments, accessories and material cited correspond unequivocally to those used by the profile of criminal who engages in this type of criminal activity, known as "slip-up" and which is put into practice by taking advantage of the absence of the residents to steal mainly money and jewelry.
The modus operandi for this type of robbery involves the use of a simple tool. The slip method consists of sliding a thin, flexible object, such as a credit card or rigid plastic, between the door frame and the latch. Once inserted, the thief applies inward pressure, forcing the latch to give way and the door to open.
Therefore, two men aged 34 and 33, residents of Barcelona, were arrested on site as alleged perpetrators of an attempted robbery with force in an inhabited dwelling.
Once at the Civil Guard headquarters, specialists from the Fraga Territorial Judicial Police Team collaborated with the acting force to obtain the true identification of the detainees and gather more information about other crimes committed by them in national territory.
On March 29, 2024, the detainees were brought before the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of Fraga (Huesca), and in both cases, preventive detention without bail was decreed.
