The Civil Guard in Fraga arrested the alleged perpetrator of a fire that damaged 8 vehicles, in addition to a theft from inside a vehicle.
The arrest was made following inquiries by the Fraga Civil Guard station, which led to the identification of the alleged perpetrator.
Early on the morning of January 16, a call was received through 112 at the 062 headquarters of the Civil Guard in Huesca, reporting a fire in a vehicle parked in a parking lot belonging to a street in the town of Fraga.
A team of firefighters, local police and the Civil Guard from Fraga went to the scene. The fire directly affected 3 vehicles and another 5 were damaged by the effects of the heat.
Initial investigations by the Civil Guard of Fraga revealed that the car where the fire started had been parked by its owner just a few hours earlier.
At first, everything pointed to it being an accidental fire, although when a request for support was received from the Fraga Local Police regarding a robbery in a vehicle near the fire, the Civil Guard agents suspected that both incidents could be related.
After conducting several searches of the area to locate the suspected perpetrator, Civil Guard officers spotted an individual dressed in dark clothing walking away from the scene of the robbery, carrying a backpack. The officers identified him and asked him to show the contents of the backpack, which revealed a container of flammable liquid.
Thanks to citizen collaboration, it was determined that the backpack carried by the suspect had been stolen from the stolen vehicle.
With all the evidence and information gathered, as well as the support of officers from the Criminalistics Laboratory of the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Huesca, it was determined that the possible perpetrator of the acts would be the identified person, so they proceeded to arrest him, a 33-year-old man from Fraga, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of damage and a crime of theft from inside a vehicle, this suspect had a record for similar acts.
The proceedings conducted by the Civil Guard Post of Fraga were handed over to the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 1 of Fraga, and the accused was released with precautionary measures.
