The criminal organization caused losses in the value of the stolen goods and damages of approximately €400.000
The Civil Guard of Huesca has carried out an investigation, which has concluded with the dismantling of a criminal group based in the province of Córdoba, which was dedicated to carrying out copper cable thefts from various companies and through different Spanish provinces.
The ROCA Team of the Huesca Command in collaboration with the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police, within the framework of Operation PALERMAZO, has been able to solve six robberies with force of copper cabling from the overhead telephone lines, all committed continuously between the months of May and August 2024, in towns belonging to the provinces of Huesca, Zaragoza and Salamanca.
The investigation and exhaustive fieldwork carried out at the robbery scenes revealed that the crimes had the same modus operandi, as well as a series of pieces of evidence that directed the investigations towards the criminal organization in Córdoba.
The robberies were committed in the Huesca municipalities of Robres, Grañén, Berbegal, Peralta de Alcofea, and Barbuñales. They also occurred in the province of Zaragoza in Mallén, Frescano, Fuendejalón, and Tabuenca, and the same organization committed robberies in the province of Salamanca as well.
Modus operandi:
The perpetrators would study areas suitable for committing the crimes, then select the cable to cut, proceeding to steal the copper wiring until the entire line was cut during the night. The detainees used several vehicles to disperse their presence in anticipation of the Civil Guard's presence.
Exploitation phase:
During the operational work, the Civil Guard agents were able to verify that the criminal group had its logistical base in the province of Cordoba, and after various investigations, the commission of the different robberies in Aragon and Salamanca was confirmed, not ruling out the commission of other robberies in different provinces of the Spanish geography.
The UOPJ and the ROCA Team of Huesca coordinated the operation to arrest the implicated individuals, deploying an operational unit in the province of Córdoba with the support of the Civil Guard forces of that province. On August 27, once the two vehicles in which the suspects were traveling were identified, the members of the criminal organization were arrested, and it was verified on site that they were carrying a significant quantity of stolen copper cable.
With this operation, the Civil Guard has dismantled the criminal organization, arresting six individuals, all men between the ages of 19 and 37 and residents of Córdoba. A total of approximately 3.500 kilograms of stolen copper were recovered. The case file, prepared by the ROCA Team of the Civil Guard in Huesca, was submitted to the Court of Instruction No. 1 of Huesca.
