The alleged perpetrator, a 49-year-old man, used a virtual fuel card, managing to defraud around €10.000 from the same chain of establishments.
Last June, following a complaint filed with the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), the representative of a well-known chain of gas stations reported that approximately €9.758 had been defrauded through a virtual refueling card from said gas station, the events taking place in the town of Fraga.
After the Civil Guard station in Fraga took charge of the investigations, video surveillance recordings, statements, and possible accounts linked to the virtual card were requested, revealing that the operations on said card had been taking place from 2022 until last May 2024.
Furthermore, it was determined that he used the virtual card to refuel 5 other people who paid him in cash an amount lower than the real price it would have on the market.
The agents were able to identify the alleged perpetrator, who was a former employee of the company who always repeated the same modus operandi: he would approach the gas station pumps with his mobile phone.
Therefore, on July 10th, officers from the Fraga Civil Guard station arrested the alleged perpetrator, a 49-year-old man from Lleida, for repeated fraud. Five other individuals—four residents of the province of Huesca and one from the province of Lleida—were also investigated as suspected recipients of stolen goods. The case file prepared by the Fraga Civil Guard was submitted to the Fraga Court of Instruction No. 1, and the detainee was released with the obligation to appear before the court when summoned.
