The Provincial Council, in its plenary session held this afternoon, approved an institutional motion of support for the municipalities affected by the fires. The provincial body will also make its technical services available to the affected town councils and will explore ways to expedite aid granted by other administrations.
The Provincial Council of Huesca will reinforce its support for the municipalities affected by the forest fires recorded this summer in the province with new lines of aid aimed at contributing to the recovery of the damage caused by the fire.
The provincial institution will use available treasury surpluses to fund these grants, which can be used for the repair of roads, water intakes, municipal infrastructure and facilities, as well as other expenses directly related to the fires that have not been covered by insurance or other administrations.
In addition to financial support, the Provincial Council will offer technical and administrative assistance to municipalities to facilitate damage assessments and the preparation of reports, projects, certifications, and other documentation necessary to apply for aid or to carry out procedures with other institutions and insurance companies. This support will be directed especially to small municipalities with fewer resources of their own.
The DPH will also collaborate, within its powers and in coordination with the other public administrations, in the support measures that are promoted to help those affected and contribute to mitigating the consequences of the fires.
The institution will also study the possibility of establishing mechanisms that allow municipalities to receive in advance the amounts corresponding to aid granted by other administrations , provided that there is legal and financial coverage and that these incomes are subsequently guaranteed.
Collaboration from the provincial nursery
The Provincial Council has also approved an amendment to the provincial nursery service ordinance so that municipalities affected by evacuations or lockdowns due to the wildfires in the province will be exempt from paying the public price for purchasing plants, trees, and shrubs from the nursery. This initiative also aims to facilitate reforestation efforts by local councils in the areas surrounding their towns and villages.
Recognition to those who fought the fire
The resolution also includes the Provincial Council's recognition of the professionals and volunteers who participated in the firefighting, protection, and assistance efforts during the Las Peñas de Riglos fire. These included the INFOAR operation of the Government of Aragon, the Huesca Provincial Council Firefighters, the Military Emergency Unit, the Army, the Civil Guard, the BRIF (Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigades) and aerial resources from the Ministry, 061 Aragon (the regional emergency medical service), the Red Cross, Civil Protection, SARGA (the Aragonese Forest Fire Prevention and Extinction Service), and the Nature Protection Agents, along with personnel from other autonomous communities and from France.
The Provincial Council extends its gratitude to farmers, tractor drivers and volunteers who collaborated on the ground, as well as to the residents, associations, establishments, entities and town councils that helped and welcomed the people who had to leave their homes during the emergency.
Finally, the provincial institution conveys its sorrow for the death in the line of duty of Corporal Javier García Sancho , a member of the Fourth Emergency Intervention Battalion of the UME, and expresses its condolences to his family, colleagues and loved ones, recognizing his dedication and sacrifice during the emergency.
