The Mequinenza Women's Association "La Dona" will light the fuse of the rocket that, after its explosion, will officially mark the start of the 2026 "La Santa" festivities in Mequinenza. This will take place on September 16th at 1 p.m. in the Town Hall Square, in recognition of the association's long history. Next year, the association will celebrate its 40th anniversary and is a fundamental part of the town's community organizations.
This initiative aims to highlight the four decades of collective work by an association that, since 1987, has promoted women's participation in the social, cultural, and civic life of the town, creating spaces for meeting, learning, and advocacy, and contributing to a more egalitarian society. It recognizes the role the organization has played in Mequinenza over the years, helping to transform the municipality and paving the way for future generations. This often unseen work helps keep the town vibrant and fosters spaces for participation, integration, and community.
Throughout its history, “La Dona” has actively participated in numerous local initiatives. These include organizing various activities and workshops, the arrival of Santa Claus and the Three Kings, Cultural Week, organizing the themed party in June, and collaborating on the “La Santa” festivities, in addition to its involvement and support for different activities that take place throughout the year.
The selection of the Mequinenza Women's Association "La Dona" to kick off the festivities aims to highlight the value of community organizations and publicly recognize those who, collectively and voluntarily, contribute to building and maintaining the town's vitality. The Town Hall extends this recognition to all the associations in Mequinenza and expresses its gratitude for their work throughout the year.
