The "Joaquín Calucho Memorial" race will take place this coming Sunday at 10:00 a.m., starting and finishing at the City of Sport.
The Fraga City 5K/10K “Joaquín Calucho Memorial” will celebrate its fifteenth edition this coming Sunday, breaking registration records. A total of 354 athletes will participate in this race , which, organized by CA Fraga Bajo Cinca and the Fraga City Council, has become a classic on the local sporting calendar. The Mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún, the Councilor for Sports, David Casanova, and the President of CA Fraga Bajo Cinca, Juan Carlos Longán, presented the race at a press conference this Thursday morning.
At the presentation, the club president shared some details about the race, which will begin at 10:00 AM on the same course as previous editions , starting and finishing at the Sports City. Of the 354 runners, 228 are men and 126 are women. Additionally, 167 are local athletes. Both distances will have the same number of participants, 177.
In his remarks, Gramún highlighted the club's work in ensuring that "this passion for athletics has transcended the competitive to become a social phenomenon ." "Nowadays, you can go out on the street at any time, and it's practically impossible not to see someone running," the mayor stated, congratulating CA Fraga Bajo Cinca "for promoting and being a pioneer for so long a healthy lifestyle and values that help us move forward as a society."
“From the City Council we will continue to support this event and the other initiatives and sports clubs in our city, because they are our best ambassadors,” said Gramún, who affirmed that “we will continue working together and pooling the efforts we can make from the local administration and from the clubs and associations to improve the initiatives that are aimed at our residents .”
For his part, Casanova highlighted the “success in participation and organization” that directly contributes to the city's “sports tourism .” “Whenever there is a major sporting event, our city comes alive and bustling. In addition to the 350 athletes, their companions come along, and together they give the local economy a boost,” the councilor commented.
Juan Carlos Longán also highlighted the race's organization. "The security meeting we had with the Local Police, the City Council's maintenance crew, Civil Protection, and the Civil Guard was fantastic," he explained, adding that "after 15 years, everything runs very smoothly, and everyone's involvement, along with the City Council's support, makes things very, very easy for us." Finally, Longán explained that they are working with the City Council to try to host a Spanish championship in the future.
