Registration will be open until Sunday March 17
The 5K/10K Fraga City Race – Joaquín Calucho Memorial – expects to reach 300 participants in its thirteenth edition, which was presented this Wednesday and will be held next Sunday, March 24. Registration, which can be done through the website https://www.10k-5kfraga.com/ , will close on March 17, and so far 236 runners have already registered. Juan Carlos Longán, president of the Fraga-Bajo Cinca Athletics Club, commented that this is a “good rate of registration,” since registered athletes “usually wait until the last weekend to register.”
At the press conference, which was also attended by the mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún, the president of the Aragonese Athletics Federation, Alberto Pallarés, and the councilor for Sports, David Casanova, Longán also highlighted the qualities of the course: “It is a flat circuit, a circuit for setting a personal best, which is an incentive for registered athletes.”
Regarding the circuit, Longán apologized in advance for “the minor disruption that will occur in Fraga on Sunday the 24th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., but the circuit—which runs from the Sports Complex to the Sotet Pavilion, passing through the Avenida de la Constitución and Avenida Reyes Católicos—has been thoroughly studied and tested to minimize any inconvenience. We worked closely with the Local Police to design the circuit last year, and it is a very minimally disruptive route for traffic and people.”
For his part, the federation president stated that “it’s always a pleasure to come here and thank Juan Carlos Longán for his work, and especially the people of Fraga.” “Fraga has an excellent location for organizing events. We have a fantastic athletics track here. Sport is in the air in Fraga, and now we have a 10K race which, remember, is officially certified; the times are included in the rankings, and it's the Aragon Championship.”
In his address, Gramún congratulated the Fraga Bajo-Cinca Athletics Club “for the work it carries out at all levels: sporting, promotional, and social.” Furthermore, the mayor thanked the Aragonese Athletics Federation for hosting this event, part of the Aragonese Championship, in the city, as “it means that hundreds of people come to our Sports City every year, with the positive impact that this has on our local businesses.”
“It is a pleasure to present another event. Sport in our city continues to thrive; we continue to host high-impact, high-level events,” said the Councilor for Sports, who maintained that “from our department and from the City Council, we will continue to support all kinds of sporting events and initiatives, because we believe in sport and that is what we are here for: to promote sport and, above all, to make it easier for clubs and federations that want to bring events to our city so that we can be good hosts.”
