Josefa Novials, first user of the “Magda Godia” Residence in Mequinenza

Josefa Novials

This week, this care center for the elderly opened, receiving its first users from the municipality.

The name Josefa Novials will be etched in the modern history of Mequinenza , as she was the first person to enter the Magda Godia Senior Residence and Day Center. This resident of the municipality was accompanied by her family upon her arrival. Josefa's arrival this week marked the official opening of this new facility, whose construction began in 2008.

Novials is the first of the ten residents who will gradually join during these first few days, in a staggered process.

The opening of the residence marks the culmination of a project initiated in 2008 and developed in two phases, with a total investment of €8,76 million . The second phase, resumed in 2021 after years of stagnation, was primarily funded by the MINER Plan , which contributed approximately €5,3 million through the Institute for Just Transition and the Government of Aragon. This amount was supplemented by over €2 million from the Mequinenza City Council's own funds and €728.000 from the Provincial Council of Zaragoza.

According to the town hall, ten people will move into the center from September 2nd and up to ten more applications for places from residents of different municipalities in Bajo Cinca are already being processed.
