In the Plenary Hall of the Fraga Town Hall, Mayor Ignacio Gramún welcomed the participants of the International Days of Coexistence "Fraga Amiga" which are taking place from July 1st to 10th
The mayor thanked the participants of these events for their contribution to the city and for choosing Fraga as the venue, acknowledging that the values conveyed by the scheduled social, cultural, and sporting activities will contribute to the well-being and community spirit of all Fraga residents. The organizers worked closely with the city council to ensure the safety of citizens throughout the events.
As a token of appreciation, the organizers presented the mayor with a t-shirt from the event and a copy of the Reina-Valera Bible. Under the motto "Friendly Fraga," 54 young evangelicals from Sweden, the United States, Brazil, Ecuador, and various parts of Spain arrived in Fraga eager to enjoy its culture and work for solidarity and the common good of all its residents. From early morning, the yellow t-shirts of the participants could be seen in the park along the banks of the Cinca River, carrying out environmental restoration work.
For two mornings, volunteers will participate in community service, helping to clean various areas of the city . During the 10-day event, several cultural and social activities are also planned. On Wednesday, July 3rd, a 3x3 soccer tournament and a Zumba session were held at the Sports Complex. An English Conversation program with the group of Americans participating in the event will also take place at the Bible Church, located at 7 Aragón Street. On Friday the 5th, at 10:00 PM, the Country Festival was held in the Juan Carlos I Gardens, a cultural exchange event with the group of North Americans visiting Fraga. The following day, at the same time and place, a benefit concert was held. The Celtic rock band Sal150 , a finalist to represent Spain in Eurovision , performed at the concert . From Saturday to Monday, and also in the Juan Carlos I Gardens from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the little ones can enjoy a reading animation program with clowns, puppets, stories and crafts, where the fight against bullying will be promoted.
The Decisión Association has been organizing these events throughout Spain for 40 years and has received recognition from several municipalities for its cultural and charitable work. The Lower Cinca Bible Church, located at 7 Aragón Street in Fraga, hopes to use these events to demonstrate Christian love in a practical way to all the residents of Fraga. The evangelical presence in Aragon has its roots in the Protestant Reformation, as there is evidence that the Inquisition prosecuted some fifteen Aragonese as "heretical" evangelicals in the 16th century. However, the first evangelical church inaugurated in Aragon dates back to 1870, at 135 El Coso Street, with Don Antonio Carrasco as its pastor.
The Governor of Zaragoza attended the event and stated that Evangelicals had the same rights as Catholics in Spain. However, religious freedom did not arrive in our region until the approval of the Constitution in 1978, and Evangelicals suffered all kinds of hardships, marginalization, and defamation until then. This did not prevent their growth, and currently there are 122 Evangelical places of worship in Aragon, according to the Observatory of Religious Pluralism of the Ministry of Justice, which work for the common good and to help others. This spirit of solidarity inspires these International Days, which aim to instill values and share God's love in a practical way with all the residents of Fraga.
