The victim arrived in the region after responding to an offer for the fruit harvesting season and, according to the complaint, worked without a contract and in very precarious conditions.
The Civil Guard has investigated a 56-year-old man, a resident of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against workers' rights and another of coercion , following an action carried out by agents of the Fraga Post.
As reported by sources within the Civil Guard, the investigation began in early May after they received a complaint regarding events that had occurred weeks earlier. According to the victim, a foreign national traveled to the Bajo/Baix Cinca region in April, attracted by a job offer advertised on social media for seasonal fruit picking.
Once in the region, the employment situation was very different from what had been initially offered . According to the complaint, the person who contacted him, who worked for a local company, confiscated his personal documents to prevent him from leaving and imposed extremely harsh working conditions on him.
The victim claimed to have worked long hours on construction jobs, without any protective or safety measures, and to have no employment contract , receiving an approximate remuneration of 25 euros per week.
After learning of the incident, officers launched an investigation to clarify what had happened. The investigation led them to the victim's workplace, the identification of the alleged perpetrator, and the recovery of the victim's personal documents that had been taken.
Finally, on May 14, the Civil Guard began investigating this resident of Bajo/Baix Cinca as the suspected perpetrator of both crimes . The case file has been sent to the Duty Court in Fraga, and the suspect will have to appear before the judicial authority when required.
