The driver of the "megatruck" was driving erratically on the AP-2 motorway and has been investigated by the Civil Guard for an alleged crime against road safety while driving a motor vehicle, registering a blood alcohol level of 0,98 mg/liter
Agents from the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of Huesca, have investigated the driver of a Euromodular vehicle combination for an alleged crime against road safety, for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcoholic beverages and exceeding the legally established blood alcohol levels by more than 0,60 milligrams/liter.
In the early hours of February 26, the Central Operations Unit of the Civil Guard Traffic Unit (COTA) in Huesca received several reports from users of the AP-2 motorway, heading towards Barcelona, that a combination of Euro-modular vehicles was driving erratically, posing a serious risk to road safety, since this "megatruck", consisting of a tractor unit and two semi-trailers, can reach a total length of 25,50 meters and a maximum authorized mass of up to 60 tons, which requires a special permit to circulate.
Following the alert, a patrol from the Fraga Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard arrived at the scene and observed the vehicle driving erratically, traveling on the shoulder without maintaining a continuous trajectory. An emergency operation was immediately launched to prevent a potential accident and the resulting risk to other road users. Finally, at kilometer marker 86, the "megatruck" was successfully moved off the highway to a rest area for inspection and further checks.
During the driver's identification, officers observed clear signs of intoxication and administered a breathalyzer test. The test yielded a positive result of 0,98 mg/liter, exceeding the legal limit for professional drivers of 0,15 mg/liter. Consequently, the driver was investigated for an alleged traffic offense and issued several citations for violations of the General Traffic Regulations. The vehicle and its components were impounded. The suspect is a 48-year-old male resident of Madrid.
The Investigation Team of the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of Huesca, prepared the corresponding proceedings for an alleged Crime against Road Safety, which were sent to the Duty Court of Fraga, the investigated driver must appear when the competent Authority deems it appropriate.
