David Guirao (Zaragoza, 1973) is the author of the poster for this edition
The Fraga T Cuenta festival is at its midpoint, and we wanted to learn more about this year's poster and its creator. David Guirao has dedicated nearly 20 years to the world of illustration. He has created graphic material for numerous books, posters, educational games, animations, storyboards, and even fallas (traditional Valencian sculptures).
When he was commissioned, he tells us, it was both an honor and a responsibility. Some of the most important illustrators and poster artists in Spain have created the image for Fraga T Cuenta , such as the artist Isidro Ferrer, and he is also friends with and has worked with storytellers associated with this festival, such as Sandra Araguas and Pep Bruno.
Guirao has one guiding principle when creating a poster: to convey as much as possible without overdoing it. " It should grab your attention at first glance ," hence the intense blue color, making it instantly recognizable and gradually revealing new details of the artwork as you continue to observe it.
But beyond that, a poster must have its own character and tell a meaningful story. In this creation, the artist has used human figures reminiscent of those depicted on classical Greek pottery, as a nod to the origins of storytelling. The speech bubbles emanating from the figures represent different types of stories and ways of telling them, and even silence, equally important in developing a tale, is represented. Even the color blue itself is part of the narrative and ancient history of storytelling, recalling its origins when tales were told under the blue sky of day or around a campfire with the dark blue of night above the heads of those gathered to listen.
