Esneca Fraga's roller hockey team made history this Saturday by defeating Portuguese side Benfica 2-0 in their debut in the final stage of the Champions League, the prestigious continental club competition. The thrilling match took place at the El Sotet pavilion in Fraga, packed with enthusiastic fans.
The players of CP Esneca Fraga, supported by a spectacular atmosphere, managed to overcome Benfica, a team with an impressive history as European Champion and finalist of the competition last season.
The match began with unparalleled intensity from the home team, who, spurred on by their fervent fans, dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities. Despite their constant efforts, the score remained 0-0 for much of the first half.
The match became more balanced as it progressed, and the visiting player Sousa had a clear opportunity, but the home goalkeeper managed to prevent the goal. Three minutes before halftime, Fraga had her first penalty, however, Soto was unable to beat the Portuguese goalkeeper. Fifteen seconds before halftime, another penalty for the home team, but this time Sanjurjo also failed to convert.
The second half continued with great tension due to the close score. Benfica increased their attacks, while for Fraga, Xicota made a remarkable individual effort that unfortunately didn't result in a goal. With seven minutes remaining, Sanjurjo scored the first goal, unleashing euphoria in the Fraga arena.
Two minutes later, the joy was complete with a penalty, which Soto converted into a goal. During the last five minutes, Fraga withstood the attempts of the Portuguese team, who were awarded a penalty for the tenth foul committed by the home side, but Fraga's goalkeeper, Ferrer, successfully saved it.
The 2-0 victory in their debut makes history for the Fraga players on this historic day for the club.
