The drugs were hidden in a false bottom of a van and were detected at a Citizen Security Checkpoint in this municipality of the Bajo/Baix Cinca region.
The Territorial Judicial Police Team (ETPJ) of the Civil Guard Company of Fraga, in collaboration with officers from the Civil Guard Stations of Fraga and Candasnos and the Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard of Fraga, proceeded to arrest a person as a possible perpetrator of a crime against public health for drug trafficking, by transporting 55 kg of cocaine hidden inside a van, events that occurred in the municipality of Candasnos.
On August 10, during a Citizen Security Checkpoint at a service area on the AP-2 motorway in the municipality of Candasnos, officers from the Fraga and Candasnos Civil Guard Post and the Fraga Civil Guard Traffic Detachment stopped a van and identified its driver.
After inspecting the cargo area of the van, the officers observed that the floor of the vehicle had a wooden board fixed in an abnormal way using rivets and screws, characteristics compatible with the existence of a hidden compartment or false bottom.
Due to suspicions raised by this structure, the vehicle and its driver were taken to the Civil Guard station in Fraga for a thorough examination. Once there, officers removed the securing elements and confirmed the existence of a false bottom built into the van's floor. Inside, hidden, they found a total of 55 packages, each weighing one kilogram, all wrapped similarly and compactly. The white powdery substance they contained was tested with reagents, yielding a positive result for cocaine.
Therefore, the agents proceeded to arrest the van driver as a possible perpetrator of a crime against public health, for drug trafficking, being a 49-year-old man and resident of the town of Badalona (Barcelona).
The ETPJ of the Civil Guard of Fraga, prepared the corresponding proceedings which, together with the detainee, were handed over to the Court of First Instance and Instruction of Fraga, the judicial authority decreed the detainee's imprisonment without bail.
