The arrested driver was involved in a road accident that occurred at kilometer marker 16,000 of the A-1234 road in the municipality of Zaidín while driving an articulated vehicle.
After performing breathalyzer tests, the driver tested positive for 1,16 mg/l and was arrested as a possible perpetrator of a crime against road safety.
The Road Accident Team (EIS) of the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of Huesca, based in Fraga and the Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard of Fraga, proceeded to arrest a driver as a possible perpetrator of a crime against road safety by driving a motor vehicle exceeding the legally established blood alcohol level of more than 0.60 mg/liter in exhaled air, after being involved in a road accident that occurred in the municipality of Zaidín.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on June 29, a road accident occurred at kilometer marker 16,000 of the A.1234 highway, in the direction of Monzón and within the municipality of Zaidín. The accident involved an articulated vehicle leaving the road on the right side. As a result, the driver of the vehicle was unharmed, but there was considerable damage to the road infrastructure and to the vehicle itself. The semi-trailer partially occupied the roadway until 11:30 p.m. that same day, when traffic could be restored in both directions.
The health services, a patrol from the Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard of Fraga and the EIS of the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of Huesca, based in Fraga, were dispatched to the scene.
At the scene, officers conducted breathalyzer tests on the driver of the articulated vehicle, who was involved in a road accident. The test yielded a positive result of 1,16 mg/liter, which is seven times higher than the maximum allowed for professional drivers of 0,15 mg/liter. He was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety for driving a motor vehicle exceeding the legally established blood alcohol level of more than 0,60 mg/liter in exhaled air. The driver was a 40-year-old Belarusian man.
The EIS of the Traffic Subsector of the Civil Guard of Huesca, based in Fraga, prepared the proceedings, which together with the detainee were handed over to the Civil and Instruction Section of the Court of First Instance Plaza de Guardia of Fraga, leaving the detained driver free with charges.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is not only an infraction or, in the most serious cases, a crime under the Penal Code, but it also poses a real risk to the life of the driver and other road users. For professional drivers, this responsibility is even greater, as they operate heavy vehicles whose loss of control can have devastating consequences.
