Today, Sunday, August 11, the Paris 2024 Olympics come to a close. This is the account of the residents of Fraga who have experienced the world's greatest sporting event.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games began on July 26, 2024. A group of young people from Fraga didn't want to miss the biggest sporting event in the world and have sent us their photographs and their account.
Victor Español Berenguer, Hector Sorolla Montull, Victor Salinas Señís, Pau Vilar Beltran and Xavi Bean Casas have been the "Fragatino Olympic Committee" in Paris 2024, with their Spanish flags adorning the name of Fraga and CB Peña Fragatina scarves included.
A week ago, on Sunday, August 4th, they departed from the capital of the Baix Cinca region and, once across the border, spent the first night of their trip. That same Sunday, they traveled to Lyon to watch one of the men's football semifinals, the match between Egypt and France. Spain was playing in Marseille, having qualified as runners-up in their group.
On Tuesday, they set off for Paris. Their accommodation was next to a campsite, west of the French capital, so they took advantage of their first afternoon to visit the Fan Zone at the Eiffel Tower.
On Wednesday, it was time to support the Spanish water polo team in the quarterfinals, and afterwards enjoy the different areas set up for fans, sharing the day with fans from various countries who came to support their respective teams in the Olympic Games.
Amidst the Olympic Games, the five athletes from Fraga have had time to do some sightseeing. On Thursday, they visited some of Paris's most iconic landmarks, and in the evening, they enjoyed the athletics competition.
Friday was a time to suffer and enjoy the men's football final between Spain and France, to shout with joy at seeing our team take the Olympic gold.
Yesterday, Saturday, was the day to return home, with an overnight stay in the Pyrenees, and today, Sunday, they arrive in Fraga to rest and enjoy the experience. Undoubtedly, a magnificent memory of the biggest sporting event on the planet.
