The Fraga City Council will present this distinction next Wednesday, August 21st, which has been revived thanks to the joint work between the City Council, the Government of Aragon, and producers and marketers in the area.
Fraga Castle will host the presentation of the recently registered 'Higos de Fraga' brand next Wednesday, August 21st, at 11:30 a.m. This event marks a milestone in the town's agricultural history, as it represents the recovery of a brand that, for decades, was widely recognized both nationally and internationally.
The main objective of reviving the 'Higos de Fraga' designation is to add value to the area's farms, strengthening their market position and highlighting the unique quality of the local product . This initiative, the result of working groups between the City Council, the Directorate General for Innovation and Food Promotion of the Government of Aragon, and local producers and distributors, is expected not only to revitalize fig cultivation but also to foster the economic and social development of the town.
The mayor of Fraga, Ignacio Gramún, has highlighted that “having the 'Higos de Fraga' brand again will allow this product to acquire added value for the benefit of Fraga farmers , since the promotion of this crop will also generate, in addition to a better position in the market, the opportunity to diversify farms towards new products.”
“And we cannot forget what recovering this brand means for our cultural legacy: having the 'Higos de Fraga' brand also translates into valuing our heritage, our history and the work that allowed many of our ancestors to get ahead , who managed to position a Fraga product at the forefront of the national market,” Gramún stated.
This presentation, which will be attended by the mayor, the councilor for Agroindustry, Verónica Alins, and the general director of Innovation and Food Promotion, Juan José Orriés, will be complemented with other complementary activities to reach the rest of the city's residents.
Therefore, the family workshop 'Nem a collir figues' (Let's Not Pick Figs) has been organized for Thursday the 22nd , which will take place at 19:00 pm in the experimental field, and on Friday the 23rd, at 19:30 pm in the Tourist Office, the guided tour 'Fraga and its Crops' will be held, concluding with a tasting of local products. This weekend, coinciding with the International Descent of the Cinca River, an event that brings together people from all over Spain and other countries like France and Portugal in the capital of the Lower Cinca region, the 'Higos de Fraga' brand will also be promoted with the 'Spin the Wheel' activity . Participants will receive gifts related to this brand. The wheel will be located on Saturday afternoon in the Sotet pavilion and in the river park, the starting area for the rowing race.
